ABSOLUTELY NO smoking or narcotics on the premises. NO smoking in the cottage, on the front porch or in the backyard. If we see evidence of smoking it is immediate grounds for removal from the property without a refund.

Parking Included

We have enough room in the driveway for 2 vehicles. If more room is needed you are welcome to park across the road in the grass but we do not own that property.

Park in the driveway, not over the top of it or on the sidewalk in the back. We have a septic holding tank so there is absolutely no parking in the grass. Watch out for the well cap to the left of the driveway (marked by a small American flag). If you have more than one car in your group you may also park across the street in the grass.

Getting around

Our cottage has a narrow driveway on the left side of the home that can accommodate two vehicles. We regularly park an SUV and pickup truck there, so most guests find it works well for their needs. If you need additional parking space, you are welcome to park across the street in the grass. Please do not park beyond the top of the driveway on the grass or sidewalk. Our septic holding tank is located in the backyard and cannot support the weight of a vehicle.

My husband and I are huge history buffs and love walking the Gettysburg battlefield. When the opportunity to purchase the cottage came about we jumped on it. Now we have a place to retreat to in a town which is special to us.

We offer no contact check-in. Guests don’t have to worry about losing a key as we use a lock pad with codes unique to each guest.

24 hours before your arrival, you will receive a passcode to the front door. That code will activate at 3pm on your date of arrival and will expire at 11am on the day of departure.

NO loud music or disturbance to neighbors. They live here permanently and we want to maintain a good relationship with them.

Please understand the cottage sits between two fields and is directly across from a creek. We have a monthly pest control service but you may see a bug or two inside the cottage at times, especially if the backdoor is open for long periods of time. These creatures reside in nature and we have no control over them. Thus we do not refund if you encounter them during your stay.

Host is not responsible for any items left by the guests. It is the guest's financial responsibility to cover the cost of shipping any item left in the home.

Payment Policy

100% of the booking amount (nightly rate + cleaning fee + taxes) must be paid at the
time of booking. Full payment is due within 24 hours of the booking date. If full payment is not received within 24 hours the booking will be canceled.

Damage Deposit Policy

As a security deposit alternative, Houfy Protect, an upfront nonrefundable low cost property damage protection policy for just $5 per night, is taken at time of booking.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations at least 7 days prior to check-in will be refunded 100%. Cancellations 4-6 days prior to check-in will be refunded 50%. There will be no refund given for any cancellation less than 4 days prior to check-in. There are no refunds for late check-in, early departures, or reduction of nights reserved after check-in.

Notes

A Few Things to Know Before Your Stay

Our 116-year-old cottage has plenty of historic charm, which also means there are a few unique features of an older home. Some areas have lower ceilings, and very tall guests may want to use extra caution in the stairwell. Our 6’5” son-in-law stays comfortably, but a little awareness goes a long way!

The cottage is nestled between two working farms, surrounded by beautiful fields, and sits directly across from the creek that General Robert E. Lee and much of his army crossed during their retreat on July 4, 1863. We love the peaceful country setting, but with that comes the occasional visit from nature. You may see an insect from time to time, especially if doors are left open for extended periods. We have regular pest control service, but keeping doors closed helps minimize unexpected guests.

For your safety and the protection of our property, the home is equipped with two exterior cameras focused only on entry areas. Since we use this home exclusively as a short-term vacation rental and do not live on-site, we use the cameras during vacant periods to help ensure the cottage remains secure. Arrival footage may be reviewed to confirm occupancy limits are followed and that no pets are brought to the property.
